Some countries need six months before your pet can fly
The country you move to sets the first date your pet can fly, long before an airline is involved. Pet relocation requirements differ by country, and a few take six months of work.
Australia and Japan both count from a rabies blood test, called an RNATT, which shows your pet is protected.
Both then wait 180 days before your pet can travel.
So we work back from your moving date and book each vet visit in the right order.

Owners who live in Great Britain can no longer use any pet passport for EU entry, even one issued in the EU, so a vet signs an Animal Health Certificate up to 10 days before arrival. China lists the UK as a low-risk country, so pets from the UK need no rabies blood test. Missing papers on arrival would mean 30 days in quarantine. So we check every document before your pet leaves, and moving a pet to China explains the rest.
- Singapore
Pets from the UK are in Singapore's top group, with no quarantine when the papers are right. Since 1 April 2026, clearance at Changi Airport (opens in a new tab) goes through a local agent, and we build that step into your plan.
- Japan
Japan counts its 180 days from the day the blood is taken. The microchip must also go in before the rabies jab that counts. We check that order on day one, because it decides when the clock starts.

Your pet can leave 180 days after the lab gets the blood sample. It then stays at least 10 days in quarantine near Melbourne. The stay is 10 days if an official vet checks your pet's ID before the blood test, and 30 days without that check, so we book the check first. Every pet from the UK spends at least 10 days in an approved quarantine centre. From 1 April 2027, New Zealand also wants an official ID check at least six months before your pet leaves. Moving a pet overseas: answers owners ask for first
Which countries require quarantine for pets from the UK?
Australia and New Zealand quarantine every pet from the UK for at least 10 days, and we book that place for you. In the EU, the USA, Canada, China and Singapore, a pet goes home after the arrival checks when the papers are right.
Does my pet need a blood test to move abroad?
It depends on the country. Australia, New Zealand and Japan ask for a rabies blood test. Pets going from the UK to the EU, the USA, Canada or China need none. When a test is needed, we time the vet visit so the result is back in good time.
Can my pet travel in the cabin on international flights?
Small pets can on some routes. Many long-haul countries take pets as cargo in the hold, the UAE among them. We pick the airline and route that suit your pet, and hire out a crate sized to them.
Can you move my pet to any other country?
Yes. We move pets from the UK to any country, including Japan, Singapore and all of South America. Each quote is built on that country's own rules, with the same team from your door to arrival.
How soon can you start if my move is sudden?
The same day you call, at any hour. We are used to taking over moves already under way. Europe can be ready about three weeks after a first rabies jab, and for longer routes we set out the fastest plan on the first call.

Singapore began to send all pet clearance at Changi through local agents.Read moreShow less
Every dog and cat flying in is cleared at the Changi Animal and Plant Quarantine Station. Since 1 April 2026, an AVS-recognised pet agent has to handle that clearance, and owners cannot do it themselves or enter the station.
The inspection slot must be booked at least five days before the pet lands, and the station now works to new opening hours. The change is permanent, so it applies to a first move and a repeat move alike.

If you live in England, Scotland or Wales, your pet now needs an Animal Health Certificate for each trip into the EU. An official vet issues it, and it must be issued no more than 10 days before you travel.
The issue date of the old passport makes no difference, and nor does the country that issued it. Northern Ireland residents are treated differently, because Northern Ireland still follows EU rules.

The 2026 import health standard came into force on 1 July, with a nine month period when either the old 2021 rules or the new ones can be used. From 1 April 2027, every cat and dog must meet the new standard.
The new standard adds an official identity check by an approved vet, taken at least six months before export. Because of that six month gap, the checks start on 1 October 2026 for anyone arriving from April 2027.
A UK and EU deal that would bring back a pet passport is still being agreed, with no start date yet. A plan made in spring could need a new document by summer.
